‘Best Region 2016’

In the latest edition of
“Best region award 2016”, held in Washington DC and organized by
National Geographic, the award-winning region voted as the most beautiful in
the world was the region of Calabria. The Italian region has been recognized as
such by a commission consisting of 1000 experts, including economists,
environmentalists, journalists and specialists in the tourism sector. The other
two regions that have been placed on the podium are the Queensland (Australia)
and Santa Cruz (Argentina), classified in second and third.

Calabria has received 70% of the votes, and has been awarded for being
“… a region where history and scenery combine to create an entrancing
blend, a region full of joie de vivre, where even the air you breathe urges the
good mood. The region with some of the most beautiful seaside resorts in the
world, along with the Sila mountains and the impetuous energy of its people. A
land that is worth visiting even just to taste the culinary delights. A land
from which every tourist comes back with something inside …. “.

During the celebration, they also screened a short film with the wonders of the
Calabrian soil: Tropea Beach, Caminia, the Aragonese castle of Isola Capo
Rizzuto, the lake Pollino, the promenade of Reggio Calabria, Big Stone, etc.
…, in this video they also showed the Nduja of Spillinga, classified as one
of the best dishes in the world. At the end of the short 5 minutes of applause
it made it clear that the victory of Calabria has been well received by all.

Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan concluded that it was defining success as
“the achievement of a political class that has been able to exploit its
resources, managing at best they can. A gender recognition, on a global scale,
will be crucial to further increase tourism and revenue in a region often
overlooked, and that finally Calabria has taken a well-deserved reward. ”
